SEF Flat Clear Coat – Customizable Matte Clear Finish

SEF Flat Clear Coat is a high-performance 2K urethane clear that gives you full control over the final gloss level. Whether you want a true matte clear finish, soft eggshell sheen, or a subtle semi-gloss look, SEF lets you fine-tune the result just by adjusting the mix ratio. This low VOC, California-compliant clear is perfect for everything from full exterior resprays to detailed custom work under the hood or in the door jambs.

Unlike other flat clears, SEF offers excellent UV protection, durability, and a consistent low-gloss look that won’t chalk or fade prematurely.

Compatible Substrates

• Solvent-based urethane basecoat
• Waterborne basecoat
• 2K Enamel

Application Guidelines

• Apply basecoat per manufacturer’s instructions
• Apply 2 full wet coats of SEF Clear Coat (2.2–3.6 mils total)
• Flash time: 10–15 minutes between coats
• Maintain a spray distance of 6–10 inches to avoid trapping air
• Keep container sealed tight to prevent moisture absorption
• Clean spray equipment immediately after use

Dry Time

Surface Prep

• Let basecoat dry 15 minutes before applying clear
• If temps are under 70°F, extend flash time accordingly
• Use a clean tack cloth before spraying

Recoat Instructions

If recoating after 24 hours, sand with 1000 grit before applying more clear. Use gentle heat on sand-throughs to avoid featheredge lifting.
